2023 Dodge Hornet Exterior Design

The Dodge Hornet is a CUV, so it features the size and stature of a small SUV along with the agility of a sedan. That is the typical CUV design theme. However, Dodge set out to add a new level to that design: the brand’s unmistakable muscle car appearance. To give it this muscle car look, designers paid close attention to the front fascia of the Hornet, giving it a bold grille with a “mail slot” opening that appeared first on the legendary Charger. On either side of the grille are slim headlights with LED daytime running light strips, forming an intimidating stare. Positioned at the center of the grille is Dodge’s Rhombi emblem. The lower grille is enlarged to provide additional engine airflow and a more pronounced look. Also providing engine cooling are dual heat extractors on the hood, another nod at the brand’s muscle car heritage. The overall design of the Hornet is streamlined front to back, giving it a sleek appearance and optimized aerodynamics. On the sides, you’ll notice matte black cladding on the wheel wells and along the lower panels. At the rear, you’ll find slim LED taillights with a light strip across the trunk lid. At the center of the trunk lid, you’ll notice the Rhombi emblem is illuminated, a first for the Dodge brand.

What Are Some Interior Features for the 2023 Dodge Hornet?

Drivers of the 2023 Dodge Hornet get a unique driving experience as the interior is focused on the driver. This isn’t new for Dodge, the brand has prided itself on making driver-centric interiors for years. This cockpit-like feeling begins behind the steering wheel with a 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster. This can be customized to display your most-used information using three reconfigurable tiles. The center stack is positioned to face the driver slightly, bringing the controls within easier reach and adding to the cockpit feeling. A 10.25-inch horizontal infotainment touchscreen occupies the top of the center stack, displaying Uconnect 5 and all its advanced technology features. Looking down from the touchscreen display, you’ll find an ignition push-button, physical climate control buttons, a leather-wrapped gear shifter, drive mode buttons, and two illuminated cupholders.

Engine and Drivetrain Options for the 2023 Dodge Hornet

There is a specific engine assigned to each of the Hornet trim levels. Beginning with the GT trim, you’ll find a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4-cylinder engine. The turbocharged I-4 engine gives the Hornet 290 lb-ft of torque and 265-plus horsepower, giving it a 6.5-second 0-60 time. This makes it one of the fastest, most powerful utility vehicles. The Hornet GT comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission that powers an all-wheel drive system designed to handle unpredictable weather and road conditions. The R/T trim level comes next. R/T stands for Road and Track, so you can expect to get some excitement from this trim! The Hornet R/T’s excitement comes from a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) system featuring a turbocharged 1.3-liter I-4 engine and a rear axle-mounted electric motor powered by a rechargeable EV battery. This setup gives the Hornet a combined 383 lb-ft of torque and 285-plus horsepower. While the turbocharged engine sends power to the front wheels, the rear wheels are driven by the rear axle’s 90-kWh electric motor, giving the Hornet R/T all-wheel drive capability. The Hornet R/T uses a 6-speed automatic transmission and takes off from 0-60 in just 6.1 seconds. This acceleration time can be reduced by a full second at the push of a button using the PowerShot feature.
