The Grand Cherokee 4xe was introduced in 2022 as Jeep's second PHEV option. Using a 2.0L turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors and a 400-volt lithium-ion battery pack, the Grand Cherokee 4xe achieves 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The first electric motor is located at the front of the engine, providing a seamless stop/start function. Additionally, this electric motor reverses while the vehicle is decelerating or braking to send power back to the battery, a process called regenerative braking. The second electric motor is inside the eight-speed automatic transmission, providing instantaneous torque to the wheels. This impressive power is accompanied by impressive fuel efficiency and range. For ranges, the Grand Cherokee 4xe gets a total driving range of 470 miles and 25 miles of all-electric driving. Meanwhile, the Grand Cherokee 4xe achieves the equivalent of 56 MPG. While the Grand Cherokee 4xe comes standard with Quadra-Trac I 4x4, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II with a rear electronic limited-slip differential are available. 

The Wrangler was introduced in 2021, making it the first-ever plug-in hybrid from Jeep. The Wrangler 4xe was introduced with a turbocharged engine, two electric motors, and a rechargeable battery pack with both electric motors in the same locations. Like the Grand Cherokee 4xe, the Wrangler 4xe gets 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the Wrangler 4xe gets 49 MPGe, 21 miles of all-electric driving, and a total driving range of 370 miles. Both the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe employ an eight-speed automatic transmission that powers all four wheels with one of Jeep's legendary 4x4 systems. The Wrangler 4xe comes standard with Selec-Trac full-time automatic 4x4. Meanwhile, the Rubicon trim comes exclusively with Rock-Trac 4x4 to provide optimal traction while traversing rugged terrain at low speeds.

Looking into the future, Jeep has laid plans to accomplish an all-electric, zero-emissions future. To transition toward this future, Jeep first plans to spread the availability of the 4xe system, making it available for the entire lineup by 2025. Additionally, Jeep has announced two all-electric concept cars that are expected to hit the production line in 2024. First is the Jeep Recon.
