Prepare Your Jeep to Off-Road

Jeep off-road preparation | Columbiana Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram
Jeep makes vehicles known for their off-roading capabilities. While off-road trips are fun, they're also not the place to realize you're not prepared for potential problems. When you're ready to head out on your next off-road adventure, make sure you prepare your Jeep ahead of time with these essentials. Winch A winch is one of the most important tools you should include in your Jeep before you go off-roading. Not only is it good for self-recovery if you get yourself into a tight situation, but it's also ideal if you need to help a friend out of a tough spot. Make sure you choose a winch strong enough to handle all the weight of your Jeep. Additionally, consider getting a land anchor to go along with your winch. This can give you a sold anchor point if there's nothing in nature you can hook on to.Tree Protector We all want to make sure we preserve our favorite off-road spots so we can come back again and again to enjoy them. However, if you wrap straps that have some give to them, like a snatch strap, around a tree to use it as a winch point, you could damage the bark and kill the tree. That's why it's important to include a tree protector strap. These straps are wide, won't stretch under strain, and provide chafe protection so you can safely use a tree during winching operations. Gloves Gloves are one of those items you don't think about packing until you're on the trail and suddenly realize you need them. Whether you're winching, changing a tire, or doing any other off-road work, your hands will appreciate it if you think to throw in a pair of gloves before you leave. Heavy-duty leather gloves are good for the hard jobs, but you should also consider including a pair that offers more flexibility in the fingers for when you're working in those tight spaces. First-Aid Kit Every Jeep needs a first-aid kit. You can purchase one already packaged with the supplies you need or put one together yourself. Just keep in mind that some of the products in a first-aid kit have an expiration date. Therefore, it's a good idea to check your products before every trip, and then replace anything that has expired. Some of the products you should have in your first-aid kit include adhesive bandages, aspirin, gauze pads, scissors, tweezers, adhesive tape, and hydrogen peroxide. Air Compressor If you've spent any amount of time off-roading, you understand the benefits of airing down your tires for better traction. However, when you hit the paved roads to head home, it's sometimes difficult to find a gas station where you can buy air to reinflate your tires. On the other hand, if you have a portable air compressor, you can quickly and easily fill your tires back up to the on-road pressure you need. Before you hit those trails for your next off-road adventure, make sure you have your Jeep stocked with this essential off-roading equipment. Photo by Tydence | Licensed under cc by 2.0
