2021 RAM HD Revealed

Brought to you by Columbiana Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM

The RAM HD is back, and it's the most capable pickup in the segment with a towing capacity of 37,100 pounds when equipped with a gooseneck hitch. The massive pickup also comes with 1,075 lb-ft of torque, and when you combine the torque numbers with the towing numbers, you know that RAM means it when they say, "you won't even know it's back there." All of this power comes courtesy of a 6.7-liter High Output Turbo Diesel, which is one of the best engines in its class. The first of the 2021 Ram Heavy Duty pickups are set to come off the line later this month, and we have all the information you need to know beforehand. Continue reading for more!

About the engine and towing

Ram worked closely with Cummings to make improvements to the original diesel engine for 2021. There is a variable geometric turbocharger for starters, which increases the flow rate in the fuel delivery system. This enables the 6.7-liter Output Turbo Diesel to produce an additional 75 lb-ft of torque. This improvement ranks the Cummings engine far ahead of the competition while maintaining the diesel's durability and efficacy. It's 37,100 lb-ft of torque is made possible via an in-house made hitch design from Ram Engineering. The upgraded capability allows the RAM HD to haul some of the heaviest trailers in the industry.

Advanced tech

New this year for the RAM HD is a digital rearview mirror that can display video in realtime from its rear-facing camera and turned back into a normal rearview mirror with the touch of a button. The digital rearview mirror is available with all Heavy Duty models and provides drivers with an unobstructed rear view designed to enhance safety. The cabin is also a new level of refinement, which continues the brand's interior leadership as the RAM HD comes with premium quality materials, colors and textures, refinement, technology, and luxury. Standard is a Uconnect 4C system with navigation that can be viewed through a 12-inch touchscreen that is reconfigurable and features tailor-made graphics and state-of-the-art connectivity. The personalization of your Uconnect is made easy via the split-screen, which allows two screens for the desired application such as Apple CarPlay or HVAC controls, or one application, such as navigation, throughout the 12-inch touchscreen.

Amazing RAM Power

The rear of the RAM Heavy Duty's frame includes fully boxed rails that go along with the rear-axle structural cross member with provisions made for the fifth-wheel and gooseneck hitch. All of this has been upgraded in 2021 to accommodate the increased towing capacity. The fifth-wheel and the gooseneck hitch are optional. Simultaneously, the standard 4/7-pin trailer connector at the bumper and an additional 7-pin connector are integrated into the bed's rear to be wired to the trailer easily. There is also a converted external power source, which is located at the rear of the bed. The plug comes with a water-resistant lid and includes a  400W inverter. The RAM 3500's Heavy Duty maximum gooseneck and conventional hitch maximum trailer weight ratings are 37,100 lbs. and 23,000 lbs., respectively.
