A combo of many factors made this engine's power possible, including re-made intake ports, a dual high- and low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation system, dual overhead camshafts with 4 valves per cylinder (and a 60-degree angle within the cylinder banks), as well as a new-gen water-cooled turbocharger with variable geometry!
