Winter Road Trip to Pittsburgh

Indoor Winter Activities in Pittsburgh

If you’re like me and the onslaught of winter sends you into hibernation mode, you’ll appreciate all the fun (and warm) activities Pittsburgh has to offer during the coldest months of the year. When going outdoors doesn’t sound appealing, have no fear or frostbite: these great indoor ideas will get you through the season:

Museums: Take your pick of The Andy Warhol Museum, Carnegie Museums of Natural Art and History, the Children’s Museum and more! The arts aren’t lacking in Pittsburgh and our impressive gallery collections are proof.

Restaurants: It’s important to fill up before hibernating, and luckily, Pittsburgh was named 2019’s Food City of the Year! Options are endless, but three of our favorite foodie-approved eateries are Butcher and the Rye, Alla Famiglia, and Acorn.

Entertainment: Head to the Waterfront for a sing-along at a dueling piano bar or laugh ‘til you pee at a comedy club! PPG Arena is the place to cheer on the Penguins or enjoy a concert. If a quieter scene is more your style, opt for Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Experiencing Phipps at Christmastime will warm even the coldest of hearts.

History: Our city’s rich history is evident in the Mexican War Streets neighborhood, walking down the streets of Bloomfield, or shopping in the Market District. Though few places celebrate their history like The Frick Pittsburgh.

Education: Less textbooks and more creating is the kind of education I’m talking about! How about a knitting class? Glass-blowing? Blacksmithing? Pittsburgh offers a wide array of skill-based classes and workshops, so what are you waiting for? You’re only one sign-up away from finding your next passion.
