Jeep Reveals All-New 2020 Gladiator

Big innovations, technology, and reveals are traditionally saved for the LA Auto Show, one of the biggest events in the automotive industry, and this year, Jeep was a show-stopper.  The reveal of their highly anticipated all-new 2020 Gladiator has been hoped for by Jeep enthusiasts for years, and Jeep hasn’t disappointed.  This one of a kind midsize truck has legendary off-roading capabilities, the class-only offering of that exciting open-air experience, and best-in-class payload and towing capacities!  Benefitting from the recent 2018 Wrangler redesign, the Gladiator brings a great modern-day style to this classic lineup.  Offered in four trims--the Sport, Sport S, Overland, and Rubicon--there’s a package to suit your needs of balancing daily commutes, power needs, and adventure capabilities.

Old Meets New
One of the most commendable aspects of Jeep aesthetics is the ability to keep classic designs and upgrade them into the modern era.  There’s nothing unmistakable between the Wrangler and its original Willy MB, just as the new Gladiator preserves just the right amount of design elements to splendidly call back when this midsize truck was last seen in the 1980s.  The Wrangler-esque cab inspiration is attached to a five-foot bed that features a three-position tailgate, LED lights, and a roll-up tonneau soft cover.  Unmistakably Jeep, the 2020 Gladiator possesses that iconic nose design featuring boxy front fascia, round headlights, seven slot grille made wider to support the air intake necessary to haul large weights, and trapezoidal wheel flares now featuring LED daylight running light strips.  The Gladiator is the only true open-air experience truck on the market, made easier than ever thanks to technology and redesigned elements featured on the Wrangler.  You have choice of a soft top or tri-paneled hardtop that are both made simple to remove either with the soft top’s dual one-handed latch hinges or the Jeep-supplied hardtop tools.  The doors have been molded lighter and easier to remove by being made in aluminum.  The hinging windshield is secured with a four-bolt release, compared to the previous models’ 28 bolt release.  The 2020 Gladiator supplies you with legendary Jeep performance when it comes to retaining off-roading ability despite the longer build when compared to the Wrangler.  This is thanks to the extended wheelbase that perfectly balances the vehicle’s stability on uneven terrain, as well as best manages any additional weight in the bed during hauling.  The maximum 11.1-inch ground clearance makes for incredible cruising on road and off, triumphing over best-in-class climbing angles and through waterways that are up to 30 inches deep!

Capability and Power
Power and capability is personalized via your chosen 4x4 system, powertrain selection, and paired transmission.  The Sport, Sport S, and Overland all feature Jeep’s entry 4x4 Command-Trac system, a part-time 4WD that engages extra power when the extra traction is necessary.  Exclusive to the off-road specialized Gladiator Rubicon, you could also get the Rock-Trac 4x4 system to maximize your Gladiator’s performance output.  Both these 4WD systems feature third-generation Dana 44 front and rear axles, but the Rubicon adds on a Tru-Lok limited-slip differential in both front and rear, plus an electronic front swaybar disconnect and 33x11 inch off-road tires.  Standard on all Gladiators, as it is within the Wrangler, the 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar engine comes paired with a six-speed manual transmission to deliver 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft torque.  If you need more power, there’s an available 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 that heightens efficiency and torque--442 lb-ft--that requires an upgraded eight-speed automatic transmission.  This transmission is available with the Pentastar if you favor the convenience of automated shifting.  Altogether, the 2020 Gladiator can haul a payload of 1,600 pounds and tow up to 7,650 pounds--best-in-class performance numbers for midsize trucks!
